Waterproofing

Here at rhino linings we specialize in problems with leaky buildings, concrete or fiber glass roofs and flat surfaces including decks and roofs.

There are two main problems seen in leaky buildings

1. The joins: Most waterproof membranes use glue to bond the joins together. The problem with this is that the two materials that have been bonded together may move and contract with UV rays or heat. If the glue cannot withstand this movement or the workmanship was bad, the join may tear and create leakages.
2. Flat surfaces: Flat roofs and decks have huge problems with drainage since the water just sits on top. A lot of people choose to tile their decks, the problem with tiles is that the cement used to bond the tiles is not waterproof. After a while water that just sits on top of this tile will gradually make its way through the gaps and underneath, so when you walk on the tiles the water will be pressed into the membrane causing leakages.
   
   In this case people will generally remove the tiles and the membrane, along with the substrate. Then they will screw another substrate on top, then butinol and then tile again. This process is expensive and time consuming and the craziest thing is that the leakage will just happen again, meaning in 10 years time you will have to go through the whole money wasting, time consuming process again.
